I am a drunk, bewildered avalanche moving along somehow trying to follow him. ———- Rumi.
DRUNK ? BEWILDERED ? If an intellectual and spiritually evolved Rumi can be directionless and bewildered in his pursuit, what happens to the rest of us ? As the Sufi Mystic said, “Sell your cleverness and buy bewilderment.” He expressed repeatedly the importance of forgetting all that we have been traditionally taught and remaining bewildered, immersed in the search, even personifying it.
One should ‘start over’ each time with a clean slate and be carried away by the moment, learning new lessons, while unlearning old ones. In order to surmount the moment, you need to give in to it mind, body and soul. It is important to flow into and ‘become the moment’, before you move on from it.
Your soul is not just seeking, it has to become ‘search personified’. And that is why Rumi becomes a ‘drunk, bewildered avalanche ………’The same holds true for most of life’s experiences. Unless you plunge into the depths of an emotion, understand and live it fully, you are unable to get the better of it. In order to love fully, you have to become ‘LOVE ITSELF’. To enjoy happiness, become ‘LAUGHTER PERSONIFIED’. To seek peace, become ‘QUIET’. To enjoy a song, ‘SWAY LIKE MUSIC’. When sad, it is the slower, sadder music that appeals to us. When happy, we search for happy melodies.
All creative people understand the importance of MERGING WITH THE MOMENT. When you allow yourself to do so, you get into rhythm with the Universal Spirit and partake in the process of Creativity and Divinity. Most people who join a new workplace, try to bring about changes instantly, attempting to forcibly stamp their individuality on an already existing entity. All processes are changed and new methods employed. This results in ‘chaos’ and ‘wastage of the company’s time and effort’. The most effective people, however, will take time to understand their new workplace, gauge the situation and ‘merge, with it for a while, before attempting any required changes. This ensures that they add value to the place they join.
As Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook, says in LEAN IN, “No one gets to the corner office by sitting on the side, not at the table.” So MERGING WITH THE MOMENT, is an important pre-requisite to be part of what you seek.————– Coming back to emotions, one of the stages of overcoming grief is giving in to it fully, allowing it to flow through you — without resistance. That is the 1st stage towards healing. Enjoy the thoughts, feelings and pull of the moment, MERGE WITH THEM and GO WITH THE FLOW.
Rumi says : Forget safety. Live where you fear to live. Destroy your reputation. Be notorious. I have tried prudent planning long enough. From now on, I’ll be mad.
