It’s Friday the 13th, and if you are the superstitious kind, then hold on tightly to your “horse-shoe” today.  Many believe that the day is inauspicious, since the number 13 and Friday are considered to be unlucky, and a combination of the two can only spell disaster :

** More than 60 million people, world-wide, are affected by the fear of Friday the 13th ; they don’t drive a car, leave the house or even get out of bed on the day.
**Ancient Chinese regarded the number 13 as lucky, as did ancient Egyptians.
** There is no car in Formula 1 racing with the number 13.  This number was removed after 2 drivers were killed in crashes, both driving cars numbered 13.
**The 13th guest at the Last Supper betrayed Jesus, and his crucifixion was the next day, which was a Friday.
** While hotels and hospitals often skip the 13th floor, some airports also omit gate number 13.
** Alfred Hitchcock, the director of psychological thrillers, was born on Friday the 13th, as was former British Prime Minister —- Margaret Thatcher.
** Former US President Franklin D. Roosevelt is said to have avoided travel on the 13th day of any month, and would never host 13 guests at a meal.  Napoleon and former US President Herbert Hoover were also triskaidekaphobic.
** In Italian popular culture, Friday the 13th is considered a day of bad luck.
** Legendary Rapper Tupac Shakur died on September 13, 1996, a Friday.
** Any month’s 13th day will fall on a Friday, if the month starts on a Sunday.
** Friday the 13th could be the end of the world in 2029.  An asteroid, 99942 Apiophis, is set to have a close encounter with Earth on April 13, 2029.
** Want to avoid bad luck today ?  Touch wood, avoid black cats, don’t look at the full moon through a pane of glass or throw salt over your shoulder.
